We’re officially announcing LinuxFest Northwest 22. We’re trying one last time with our 2020 theme: Be Excellent To Each Other! We still want to share with you, and you with us, a conference that encourages collaboration, teaching, and lifting each other up, in a proper collaborative online experience. Special thanks to Blindside Networks who will be professionally hosting our BigBlueButton virtual meeting space.
Our call for proposals is open now through January 31, 2022. We’re sticking with our 2020 session types, tracks, and difficulty levels. Read on for more details.
Our call for sponsors will open soon - reimagined to lift up communities friendly to free & open source software and philosophies. We’ll be giving a special lift to our 2020 sponsors who have stuck with us and turned their financial sponsorships into donations with no obligations. More to come soon on this topic.
Over the next week or so, LFNW will be migrating our mailing lists over to dedicated categories in our Discourse server.
Well, a few reasons:
- Our Discourse server offer all the benefits of the mailing list, plus a more feature rich web interface to boot.
- Discourse provides a much nicer way to thread people into conversations, and will allow more cross-interaction with the overall community - helping bring BLUG and LFNW closer together.
- Our discussion forums are professionally hosted and managed.
- Our mailing lists are currently managed on a virtual server running mailman, and we’re just not keen on maintaining it anymore.
Thanks for understanding!
Dear friends of LinuxFest Northwest,
In the interest of public health and maintaining the traditions of LinuxFest Northwest, we have decided to forgo the event for 2021.
LFNW is both an educational and a social event, and while we would like to find a way to bring the essence of LinuxFest into this socially-distant period, we’re finding that we cannot do so effectively. We will be moving forward with some other exciting projects to make the LFNW experience more cohesive, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone - look for more announcements in the near future.
Rest assured that we are doing everything that we can to bring a fantastic event back next year. We hope that this crisis will have passed by 2022 and look forward to seeing you then.
The LFNW organizers.
We are excited to announce that LinuxFest Northwest 2020 is virtually open! Presenters are submitting videos which we are posting to our YouTube channel, and we’ve opened up discussion forums to do Q&A with our presenters! Since we’re going virtual, we’re also extending LFNW(virtual)2020 beyond the weekend - through May 10 for now - to give presenters more time to make & share content… so check back regularly for updates.
So, how can you get in on LFNW(virtual)2020?
With an abundance of precaution and care for the well-being of all LinuxFest presenters, sponsors, attendees, volunteers, and their loved ones, we have unanimously elected to not hold LFNW in-person at Bellingham Technical College this year. We were all looking forward to another excellent year of the Fest, but the role that events like ours can have in spreading the virus, already present in our locality, is too great to ignore. In the coming weeks, we will be connecting with the accepted presenters to find ways of bringing their talks to our website and YouTube channel, and setting up a space for Q&A. We will also be reaching out to our Individual Supporters who may elect to maintain their tax deductible donations in support of the Fest, or be fully refunded. Our Corporate Sponsors may choose to receive a full refund, or roll over their sponsorship to next year’s LinuxFest Northwest in April of 2021.
Stay tuned to https://blog.lfnw.org and our Twitter feed for updates, and please do not hesitate to contact us with any remaining questions. Stay safe, wash your hands, we’ll keep y’all up to date.
